Biography
Overview
Barry Loudermilk is a Republican U.S. House representative from Georgia's 11th congressional district, serving since 2015. He is a former Air Force staff sergeant and served in the Georgia House of Representatives (2005–2010) and Georgia Senate (2011–2013) before his congressional election. His district is located northwest of Atlanta and favors Republicans by 12 points according to the 2025 Cook Partisan Voting Index. Loudermilk announced in February 2026 that he would not seek re-election.
Career
Loudermilk initially took an anti-establishment stance in his 2014 House primary against Bob Barr, but has since moved closer to Republican leadership. He dropped his Freedom Caucus membership in 2017 to focus on the Republican Study Committee. As chairman of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, he spearheaded a report targeting Liz Cheney's role in the January 6th Committee. In January 2025, he became chair of a House Judiciary Committee subcommittee formed to question the work of the January 6th Committee. His legislative efforts have centered on financial regulation, healthcare reform, and tax policy.
Prior political experience
Loudermilk won the 2014 Republican primary runoff against Bob Barr in a race where the Almanac of American Politics noted he took a "sharp anti-establishment turn." He ran unopposed in the general election. From 2014 to the present, he has been re-elected to successive biennial terms in his Republican-favoring district. The Almanac has noted that a Democrat with a strong base in populous Cobb County could result in a competitive race, though this has not occurred. In February 2026, Loudermilk announced he would not seek re-election.
