Biography
Overview
Barry Moore is a Republican U.S. Representative from Alabama's 1st congressional district, serving since 2025. Born September 26, 1966, in Coffee County, Alabama, Moore grew up on a farm and earned a degree in agricultural science from Auburn University. Before entering Congress, he founded Barry Moore Industries, a waste hauling company in 1998, and served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018.
Career
Moore's legislative focus centers on agriculture, border security, and traditional conservative priorities. His sponsored bills address veteran benefits (National Veterans Strategy Act), law enforcement (Federal Carjacking Enforcement Act, CBW Fentanyl Act), and government reform (Safeguarding US Rulemaking Act). In his tenure, he has taken notable stands: objecting to the 2020 election certification in Congress, voting against pandemic relief funds he characterized as a "blue state bailout," and opposing Ukraine military aid. He was acquitted of perjury charges in 2014.
Prior political experience
Moore was first elected to the U.S. House in 2020 after winning a Republican primary runoff against Jeff Coleman, then defeating Democrat Phyllis Harvey-Hall with 65.2% of the general election vote. He was re-elected in 2022 unopposed in the Republican primary and defeated Harvey-Hall again in the general election with 69% of the vote. In 2024, redistricting placed him and incumbent Jerry Carl in the same district; Moore narrowly won the Republican primary in the newly drawn 1st district and was re-elected in the general election.
