Prior political experience

In 2022, following redistricting that made the district safer for Republicans, Van Duyne defeated Jan McDowell with 59.75% to 40.25%. She ran for a third term in 2024 and defeated Democrat Sam Eppler with 60% of the vote. Before her House elections, she served as mayor of Irving, winning election in 2011 against Herbert Gears and winning reelection in 2014 against the same opponent.
