Biography
Overview
Brad Schneider is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Illinois's 10th congressional district, serving since 2017 (and previously 2013-2015). He represents the Chicago northern suburbs, including industrial city Waukegan on Lake Michigan. Before Congress, he worked as a management consultant and industrial engineer in Illinois.
Career
Schneider has championed legislation supporting caregivers, healthcare workers, teachers, and tax relief for vulnerable populations including human trafficking survivors. He co-sponsored bills regulating homemade firearms and raising the minimum wage. In the 117th Congress, he voted with President Biden's position 100% of the time. He has taken pro-choice positions and supports strong Israel policy and Iran sanctions.
Prior political experience
Schneider was first elected in 2012, narrowly defeating Republican incumbent Bob Dold by 3,326 votes (51%-49%). He lost his 2014 reelection bid to Dold but defeated him again in 2016 by 13,916 votes (53%-47%). In 2018, he ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and was reelected as the district shifted to "Solid Democrat" status. He represents a district that was historically competitive.
