Overview

Brendan Boyle is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 2nd district (Philadelphia), serving since 2015. He is known for his focus on labor issues, economic equality, and education access. Before Congress, he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2009 to 2015, where he was the first Democrat elected to represent his district.

Career

In the Pennsylvania House, Boyle championed education access through the REACH Scholarship program, transportation funding (Act 89), LGBT protections, genocide education in schools, and victim notification for DNA testing (SAFER PA Act). In Congress, he co-founded and chairs the Blue Collar Caucus, supported early on Joe Biden's 2020 presidential run, and was a keynote speaker at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. He has advocated for union protection and opposed corporate actions like the Mondelez factory closure.

Prior political experience

Boyle first won his Pennsylvania House seat in 2008 with 59.2% of the vote, defeating Republican Matthew Taubenberger. He was reelected in 2010 with 64% of the vote and ran unopposed in 2012 and 2014. He was first elected to Congress in 2014, winning the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania's 13th district with 41% of the vote despite trailing early in polls. He won the general election with 67% against Republican Carson "Dee" Adcock. In 2018, following redistricting, he was reelected to represent the new 2nd district with 79% of the vote.
