Biography
Overview
Christopher Raphael Deluzio is a Democrat serving as the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 17th congressional district since January 2023. A former U.S. Navy officer and attorney, Deluzio represents northwestern Pittsburgh suburbs and Beaver County. He is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and deputy whip of that group.
Career
Since 2023, Deluzio has introduced and co-sponsored legislation on rail safety, including the Railway Safety Act following the East Palestine derailment. He worked to ensure union labor agreements for infrastructure projects funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and secured appointment to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in 2024 due to his rail safety leadership. He co-sponsored the Shrinkflation Prevention Act to address corporate pricing practices and supported Marc Fogel's release from Russian imprisonment, which was secured in early 2025. He has consistently voted in line with progressive Democratic positions on environmental, labor, and social issues.
Prior political experience
Deluzio was first elected in 2022, defeating Republican Jeremy Shaffer 53% to 47% in the general election for Pennsylvania's 17th district. He was re-elected in 2024, defeating Republican state Representative Rob Mercuri 54% to 46%.
