Overview

Daniel Meuser is a Republican U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania's 9th congressional district, serving since 2019. A businessman from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area, he previously served as Pennsylvania's Secretary of Revenue under Governor Tom Corbett and was president of Pride Corporation, a motorized wheelchair manufacturer. He has testified before Congress on disability rights issues.

Career

As Pennsylvania Secretary of Revenue, Meuser helped implement tax reforms that earned the state an A− rating from the Council on State Taxation. In Congress, he has sponsored legislation focused on federal regulatory review, small business protections, and financial sector oversight. His notable legislative priorities include the Regulatory Review Improvement Act, Small Business Lending Fraud Prevention Act, and CFPB-IG Reform Act. He has advocated for property tax reform and testified on disability rights.

Prior political experience

Meuser was first elected to Congress in 2018, winning Pennsylvania's 9th congressional district with 59.7% of the vote against Democrat Denny Wolff. He ran in the Republican primary alongside Scott Uehlinger and George Halcovage. In 2020, he was reelected with 66.3% of the vote, again defeating Gary Wegman. In 2008, he ran unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination in Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district, losing a close primary to Chris Hackett by roughly 100 votes.
