Biography

Overview

Daniel S. Goldman is a Democratic U.S. Representative from New York's 10th congressional district, serving since 2023. A lawyer and former federal prosecutor, he was the lead majority counsel in the first impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump and is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and New Democrat Coalition. He is an heir to the Levi Strauss & Co. fortune.

Career

Goldman's major legislative focus includes gun violence prevention, government ethics and oversight, cybersecurity, and immigration court reform. He co-sponsored the Medicare for All Act and has introduced bills addressing Supreme Court ethics, secure firearm storage, and unaccompanied children protection. He filed an ethics complaint against Representative George Santos and has been active in responding to Trump-related legislative matters. He is among the wealthiest members of Congress with an estimated net worth up to $253 million.

Prior political experience

Goldman first won election to Congress in 2022, narrowly winning the Democratic primary with 25.8% of the vote in a crowded field and winning the general election with 83.9% against Republican nominee Benine Hamdan. In the 2026 primary, he faces a challenge from New York Comptroller Brad Lander after redistricting uncertainty was resolved.
