Overview

Dave Min is a Democratic U.S. Representative from California's 47th congressional district, serving since January 2025. A lawyer and former UCLA law professor, Min previously represented the 37th California State Senate district from 2020 to 2024. He has expertise in financial regulation, banking law, and capital markets, having worked at the SEC and on Senate committees focused on financial policy.

Career

In the California State Senate (2020–2024), Min introduced legislation on domestic violence protections, transit harassment studies, firearm sales restrictions, and offshore oil drilling termination following the 2021 Huntington Beach oil spill. In his early U.S. House tenure, Min has sponsored 20 bills focused on government transparency, firearm regulation, environmental protection, and financial disclosure modernization, though none have yet been reported out of committee.

Prior political experience

Min was first elected to the U.S. House in 2024, defeating Republican Scott Baugh for California's 47th congressional district. He previously ran for Congress in 2018 in the 45th district but placed third in the primary behind Katie Porter, who won the general election. Min was elected to the California State Senate in 2020, narrowly defeating Republican incumbent John Moorlach with 51.2% of the vote after winning the primary against Democrat Katrina Foley.
