Overview
Diana Harshbarger is a Republican U.S. representative from Tennessee's 1st congressional district, serving since 2021. A licensed pharmacist and businesswoman, she operates Premier Pharmacy with her husband. She is the only woman in Tennessee's House delegation and a member of the Freedom Caucus and Republican Study Committee. She was first elected in 2020, succeeding Phil Roe, and won reelection in 2022 and 2024.
Career
Harshbarger has focused on pharmaceutical and healthcare issues throughout her tenure. She sponsored the Seniors' Access to Critical Medications Act of 2025, which was reported out of committee. She has supported efforts to restrict abortion access and to strengthen pharmaceutical supply chains. She objected to the 2020 election certification on January 6, 2021, and has co-sponsored multiple impeachment resolutions against Biden administration officials.
Prior political experience
Harshbarger first ran for Congress in 2020 after Phil Roe announced his retirement. She won a competitive 17-way Republican primary on August 5, 2020, and defeated Democratic nominee Blair Walsingham in the November general election. Tennessee's 1st district is a heavily Republican area that has been in Republican hands for all but four years since 1861. She was re-elected in 2022 and 2024. She became the fifth woman elected to Congress from Tennessee when she took office on January 3, 2021.
