Biography
Overview
Emily Randall is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Washington's 6th congressional district, serving since 2025. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2019 to 2024. Born October 30, 1985, Randall grew up on the Kitsap Peninsula and is the first queer Latina elected to the U.S. House. Her district includes the Olympic Peninsula, the Kitsap Peninsula, and most of Tacoma. She is a healthcare advocate who previously worked at Boston Children's Hospital and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.
Career
In the Washington State Senate, Randall spearheaded the Randall Bill in 2019 to help military families' children enroll in school before having a district address, and sponsored a successful 2022 bill that reduced Tacoma Narrows Bridge tolls by 75 cents. In the U.S. House, she introduced the bipartisan ANCHOR for Military Families Act and has been a vocal advocate against cuts to Medicaid and healthcare programs. She has publicly opposed bills restricting transgender rights, posted an all-gender bathroom sign in her office, and walked out of President Trump's 2025 Address to Congress in protest of proposed Medicaid cuts.
Prior political experience
In 2018, Randall was elected to the Washington State Senate, defeating Republican Marty McClendon by 104 votes. She won re-election to the state senate in 2022 with approximately 51% of the vote. In 2024, following Derek Kilmer's retirement announcement, Randall ran for his U.S. House seat. She finished first in the open primary ahead of Republican state senator Drew MacEwan. In the general election, Randall defeated MacEwan with 56.8% of the vote and took office on January 3, 2025.
