Overview

Frank Pallone Jr. is a Democrat representing New Jersey's 6th congressional district since 1988. A lawyer educated at Middlebury College, Tufts University, and Rutgers Law School, he previously served on the Long Branch City Council and New Jersey Senate before his congressional tenure. He is the ranking member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Career

Pallone has served in Congress for over 35 years. He was instrumental in the American Data Privacy and Protection Act (ADPPA), the first online privacy bill to pass committee markup while he chaired Energy and Commerce. He has championed consumer protection, pediatric health research, and tribal sovereignty. He has worked on bipartisan initiatives including his work as vice chairman of the Native American Caucus and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues. He received India's Padma Bhushan award in 2002 for his work on the India Caucus.

Prior political experience

Pallone won a special election in 1988 to complete the term of deceased Congressman James Howard, defeating Republican Joe Azzolina 52% to 47%. He has been consistently reelected since then. His margins of victory have generally exceeded 55%, with wins of 57.5% in 2022 and 56% in 2024. He lost his 2013 Democratic primary bid for U.S. Senate to Cory Booker.
