Overview

Glenn Grothman is a Republican U.S. Representative from Wisconsin's 6th congressional district, serving since 2015. An attorney from West Bend, he previously served in the Wisconsin State Assembly (1993-2005) and Wisconsin State Senate (2005-2015). He is known for conservative positions on government spending, welfare policy, and social issues.

Career

In Congress, Grothman has championed legislation on government efficiency, fraud prevention, and workforce development. He co-sponsored the concealed carry law (SB 93) in Wisconsin that made it the 49th state to legalize concealed carry. He proposed welfare reforms requiring work or job training for FoodShare recipients. He voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act and opposed the $60 billion Ukraine military aid package.

Prior political experience

Grothman was first elected to Congress in 2014, defeating 17-term incumbent Tom Petri in the Republican primary, then defeating Democratic nominee Mark Harris with 57% in the general election. He was reelected in 2016 (57% vs. 37%), 2018 (55.5% vs. 44.5%), 2020 (59.23% vs. 40.72%), and 2022 when he ran unopposed in the general election after token primary opposition.
