Biography

Overview

Glenn Thompson is a Republican U.S. House representative from Pennsylvania's 15th district, serving since 2008. He is a former therapist and volunteer firefighter/EMT with degrees in therapeutic recreation from Penn State and Temple University. Since 2023, he chairs the House Agriculture Committee and became dean of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation in 2025 following Senator Bob Casey Jr.'s election loss. Thompson is a member of the moderate Republican Governance Group.

Career

Thompson has held leadership roles in Republican congresses, including voting for John Boehner's speakership in 2011 and serving as vice-chairman and later ranking member of the Agriculture Committee before becoming chair. He has fought to preserve Essential Air Service funding for rural airports in his district, opposed EPA regulations he viewed as overreach, and introduced the EATS Act to prevent state production standards on agricultural goods. He praised Trump's tariff proposals in 2025 as beneficial for American producers. He has consistently won reelection by substantial margins.

Prior political experience

Thompson was first elected in 2008 with 58% of the vote, defeating Democrat Mark McCracken. He has since won every subsequent election by increasing margins: 2010 (69%), 2012 (63%), 2014 (64%), 2016 (67%). After redistricting in 2018 renumbered his district from the 5th to the 15th, he won 68% against Susan Boser. In 2020 he received 73.5% against Robert Williams. In 2022 he won 70% over Mike Molesevich, and in 2024 he won 71.5% against Zach Womer. He has never run unopposed and has consistently defeated Democratic opponents by substantial margins.
