Biography

Overview

Guy Reschenthaler is a Republican U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 14th congressional district, serving since 2019. He is an attorney, former district judge, and U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps during the Iraq War. He previously served in the Pennsylvania State Senate and currently holds the position of Republican chief deputy whip in the 119th Congress.

Career

Reschenthaler has maintained consistent reelection success, winning office since 2019 with increasing margins (58% in 2018, 64.7% in 2020, 66.6% in 2024). He defended a Navy SEAL accused of assault during his military service. As a legislator, he has focused on energy security and critical infrastructure. In December 2020, he voted against $2,000 stimulus checks and, along with other Pennsylvania Republicans, voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election results based on claims about mail-in ballot procedures that were not proven by news accounts.

Prior political experience

Reschenthaler first won a special election to the Pennsylvania State Senate (37th district) in 2015, defeating Democrat Heather Arnet after State Senator Matt Smith resigned. He transitioned to the U.S. House in 2018, initially losing a special election nomination (2018 special, 18th district) to Rick Saccone by 32 votes. He then won the Republican primary for the reconfigured 14th district with 55.4% against Saccone and won the general election with 58% against Democrat Bibiana Boerio. He was reelected in 2020 with 64.7% against Marine Corps veteran William Marx, and in 2024 with 66.6% against Democrat Chris Dziados.
