Overview

Jacky Rosen is a Democratic U.S. Senator from Nevada serving since 2019. Before her Senate election in 2018, she represented Nevada's 3rd congressional district in the House from 2017-2019. Born in Chicago in 1957, Rosen worked as a computer programmer before entering politics at the suggestion of Senator Harry Reid. She was first elected to Congress in 2016 with 47.2% of the vote, then won her Senate seat with 50.4% in 2018, and was reelected in 2024 with 47.9%.

Career

Rosen's legislative work emphasizes veterans' services, with multiple bills supporting veteran employment, healthcare, and recognition. She co-founded the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism in 2019 and introduced the Countering Antisemitism Act in 2024. She supports the Affordable Care Act and has advocated for healthcare cost controls. On foreign policy, she met with Israeli leadership in 2025 and was among 23 Democratic senators voting for Israel arms sales. She voted against Judge Adeel Mangi's nomination to federal appeals court and against Emil Bove's confirmation. In 2025, she co-sponsored the No Tax on Tips Act, which passed with unanimous consent, and was one of 12 Senate Democrats supporting the Laken Riley Act.

Prior political experience

Rosen was first elected to the House in 2016 with 47.2% of the vote in a three-way race, narrowly defeating Republican Danny Tarkanian. In 2018, she was elected to the Senate with 50.4% of the vote, defeating one-term Republican Senator Dean Heller by winning Clark County (Las Vegas) and Washoe County (Reno), the state's two largest counties. She was one of only two non-incumbent Democrats elected to the Senate in 2018. Rosen was reelected in 2024 with 47.9% of the vote, defeating Republican Sam Brown, a retired U.S. Army captain.
