Overview
Jake Auchincloss is a Democrat representing Massachusetts's 4th congressional district since 2021. A former Marine Corps officer and Harvard graduate, he previously served on the Newton City Council from 2015 to 2021. He holds an MBA from MIT and currently serves as a major in the Marine Corps Reserve.
Career
In Congress, Auchincloss has championed healthcare access issues, particularly pharmacy benefit manager regulation and prescription drug pricing. He authored bills addressing social media's impact on children, including raising the age of internet adulthood to 16, and co-sponsored the bipartisan TikTok forced divestiture bill. He supports renewable energy development and has been outspoken on Israel policy, rejecting calls for Gaza ceasefire and voting to provide Israel military support after the 2023 Hamas attack.
Prior political experience
Auchincloss won the 2020 Democratic primary for Massachusetts's 4th congressional district with 22.4% of the vote in a crowded eight-candidate field. He defeated Republican nominee Julie Hall in the November 2020 general election and assumed office on January 3, 2021. He ran unopposed in both the 2022 Democratic primary and general election, and again ran unopposed in the 2024 Democratic primary and general election. In 2026, he declared his intent to run for reelection and faces three opponents in the primary.
