Biography
Overview
Jake Ellzey is a Republican U.S. Representative from Texas's 6th congressional district, serving since 2021. A former Navy fighter pilot with 20 years of service and nine deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, Ellzey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the Naval Academy in 1992. He worked as a commercial airline pilot for Southwest Airlines and served as a White House social aide during the Bush administration.
Career
Ellzey won a competitive 2021 special election runoff against Ron Wright's widow, Susan Wright, with 53% of the vote. He was re-elected unopposed in 2022 and won 66.4% of the vote in his 2024 general election. He participated in a bipartisan congressional delegation to Israel in June 2024, meeting with Israeli leadership. In the 118th Congress, he supported Kevin McCarthy's speakership in all 15 rounds but opposed McCarthy's removal and voted against Jim Jordan's nomination.
Prior political experience
Ellzey first ran for Texas's 6th congressional district in 2018, placing second in the Republican primary behind Ron Wright, who won the general election. In 2020, he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives, taking office in January 2021. He resigned in July 2021 to pursue the U.S. House seat. In a February 2021 special election nonpartisan blanket primary, he finished second to Susan Wright by a narrow margin, ahead of Democrat Jana Sanchez. Ellzey defeated Wright in the July 2021 runoff with 53% of the vote. In 2022, he won the Republican primary unopposed in the general election. In 2024, he defeated Democrat John Love III with 66.4% of the vote, receiving support from AIPAC and Pro-Israel America.
