Biography
Overview
Jared Moskowitz is a Democratic U.S. Representative for Florida's 23rd congressional district since 2023. He is Jewish and from Coral Springs, Florida. Before joining Congress, he served as director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management (2019–2021), where he managed the state's response to hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also served in the Florida House of Representatives (2012–2019) and on the Broward County Commission (2022–2023).
Career
As director of emergency management, Moskowitz managed Florida's response to hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic, including PPE and vaccine distribution. In the state legislature, he helped draft the bipartisan Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Safety Act following the 2018 school shooting. In Congress, he co-sponsored the EAGLES Act with Republican Mario Díaz-Balart to expand threat assessment programs for preventing school violence. He was appointed to a bipartisan task force investigating the 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Prior political experience
Moskowitz was first elected to the U.S. House in 2022, winning the Democratic primary with 61.1% of the vote and the general election with 51.6% against Republican Joe Budd (who received 46.8%). He was re-elected in 2024 with 52.3% of the vote, defeating Republican Joe Kaufman.
