Biography

Overview

Jefferson Shreve is a Republican U.S. Representative from Indiana's 6th congressional district, serving since January 2025. Born September 24, 1965, in Indianapolis, Shreve is a businessman and entrepreneur who founded Storage Express and sold it to Extra Space Storage for $590 million in 2022. He holds degrees from Indiana University, the University of London, and Purdue University. Before his election to Congress, he served on the Indianapolis City-County Council in 2013-2016 and again in 2018-2020. Shreve considers himself a moderate Republican.

Career

Shreve was sworn in as a member of Congress on January 3, 2025, and voted for Mike Johnson in the 2025 Speaker of the House election. His legislative focus has centered on border security and infrastructure. Notable achievements include sponsoring the Build the Wall Act of 2025 and the American Assistance Visibility Act (which was reported out of committee). He has also advanced efforts to amend the FAST Act related to pipeline review procedures.

Prior political experience

Shreve won the Republican primary for Indiana's 6th congressional district in May 2024, defeating a field that included Mike Speedy, Jeff Raatz, Bill Frazier, and John Jacob. He won the general election with 63.9% of the vote in November 2024, succeeding retiring Representative Greg Pence. Prior to this, Shreve ran unsuccessfully for Indiana Senate in the 36th district, losing a Republican primary to Jack Sandlin by 2.6%, and lost the 2023 Indianapolis mayoral race to incumbent Joe Hogsett by 31,097 votes.
