Biography
Overview
Jimmy Patronis is a Republican U.S. representative for Florida's 1st congressional district, serving since April 2025. He previously served as Florida's Chief Financial Officer from 2017 to 2025, and earlier held positions in the Florida House of Representatives, Florida Public Service Commission, and Florida Elections Commission. Born in Panama City in 1972, he is a partner in Captain Anderson's, a seafood restaurant his family has owned since 1967.
Career
As CFO of Florida (2017-2025), Patronis promoted a firefighter cancer relief bill during the 2019 legislative session. In the U.S. House, he has introduced nine bills focused on small business tax incentives, military aviation training, veteran licensing, and environmental permitting reform. He won a special election to Congress in 2025 with an endorsement from then-President-elect Donald Trump, despite being outraised 3-to-1 by his Democratic opponent.
Prior political experience
Patronis was first elected to the Florida House in 2006 with 67% of the vote against Democrat Janice Lucas. He was re-elected unopposed in 2008, defeated Democrat John McDonald with 78% in 2010, and ran unopposed in 2012. He was appointed to the Florida Public Service Commission in 2015 and appointed as Florida CFO in June 2017 to complete an unexpired term. He ran for his first full CFO term in 2018, winning with 52% against Democrat Jeremy Ring despite trailing in polls. In 2025, he won a special election for U.S. House Florida District 1, defeating Democrat Gay Valimont.
