Biography
Overview
John W. Rose is a Republican U.S. Representative from Tennessee's 6th congressional district, serving since 2019. He is a businessman who co-founded Transcender Corp. (sold for $60 million in 2000) and previously served as Tennessee's agriculture commissioner in 2002. Rose holds degrees in agribusiness economics, agricultural economics, and law.
Career
Rose has sponsored the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act, which became law. He has introduced or advanced multiple bills on financial privacy, banking regulation, and agricultural concerns. In his tenure, he has taken notable positions including objecting to a natural disaster relief bill over deficit concerns, signing an amicus brief supporting Texas v. Pennsylvania regarding the 2020 election, voting to object to the 2020 election certification, voting against awarding Congressional Gold Medals to Capitol Police after January 6, and voting against the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023.
Prior political experience
Rose first won election to Congress in 2018 with over 70% of the vote in the general election. In 2020, he won re-election with 73.7% of the vote while running unopposed in the primary. In 2022, he won a third term with 66.3% of the vote. Rose is currently running for Governor of Tennessee in 2026.
