Biography
Overview
Maggie Goodlander is a Democratic U.S. Representative from New Hampshire's 2nd congressional district, serving since 2025. She is a lawyer and former U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer with a background in foreign policy and White House service. Goodlander previously worked as counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during the first Trump impeachment, as a Justice Department attorney, and as a White House senior advisor in the Biden administration. She replaced retiring Democratic Representative Annie Kuster.
Career
Since taking office in January 2025, Goodlander has focused on legislation supporting military personnel and shipyard workers, including the Public Shipyard Workforce Protection Act and bills addressing military education and readiness. She authored the TRANSFER Act to help reservists transition to active service. Prior to Congress, she served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust at the Justice Department and as a White House senior advisor leading the Biden administration's Unity Agenda. She also served as House Judiciary Committee counsel during the first Trump impeachment.
Prior political experience
Goodlander was elected to Congress in 2024, winning the Democratic primary for New Hampshire's 2nd district with 63.8% of the vote against former Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern. In the general election, she defeated Republican nominee Lily Tang Williams with 52.9% of the vote. She replaced retiring Democratic Representative Annie Kuster.
