Overview

Mark Alford is a Republican U.S. Representative from Missouri's 4th congressional district, serving since 2023. Born in Texas in 1963, he worked as a television news anchor for more than 20 years at stations including WDAF-TV in Kansas City before entering politics. He is a member of the Assemblies of God.

Career

Alford's legislative focus reflects his background and district interests. He has sponsored bills supporting rural healthcare, beginning farmers, small business technology, and trade expansion. He chairs a Small Business oversight subcommittee and serves prominently on military and appropriations committees. He has voted to support Israel, opposed certain fiscal measures, and backed federal workforce reductions and trade protectionism.

Prior political experience

Alford announced his candidacy for Missouri's 4th congressional district on October 27, 2021. He won the Republican primary on August 2, 2022, and won the general election on November 8, 2022, beginning his first term in 2023.
