Overview

Marlin Stutzman is a Republican U.S. Representative from Indiana's 3rd congressional district, serving since 2025. He previously represented the district from 2010 to 2017. A fourth-generation farmer and business owner, Stutzman earlier served in the Indiana House of Representatives (2003–2009) and Indiana Senate (2009–2010). Career

Stutzman has focused on government efficiency and regulatory accountability. In state government, he co-authored legislation establishing the Hoosier Grace Commission to eliminate wasteful spending. In Congress, he has consistently opposed the Affordable Care Act and advocated for reducing government waste. Recent legislative efforts address financial technology regulation, agricultural protection, rural development, and religious freedom issues.

Prior political experience

Stutzman was first elected to Congress in a special election on November 2, 2010, to fill the remainder of Mark Souder's term after Souder's resignation. He was simultaneously elected to a full two-year term. In 2012, he defeated Democrat Kevin Boyd with 67% of the vote. In 2014, he defeated Democrat Justin Kuhnle with 66% of the vote (with Libertarian candidate Scott Wise receiving 7%). In 2016, he ran for U.S. Senate but lost the Republican primary to Todd Young. In 2024, he returned to his old congressional district and narrowly won the Republican primary against Tim Smith by 1,307 votes.
