Biography
Overview
Michael Guest is a Republican representing Mississippi's 3rd congressional district since 2019. The attorney and former District Attorney of Madison and Rankin counties is currently serving his fourth term. He chairs the House Committee on Ethics and the Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement, and serves on the House Committee on Appropriations and House Committee on Homeland Security.
Career
Guest has served since 2019 and was reelected with increasing support: 45% in the 2018 primary runoff, 64.7% in 2020, and reelected in 2022. Key actions include proposing the resolution that expelled Rep. George Santos from Congress, being named ranking member of the House Ethics Committee in August 2022 (and becoming chair in the 118th Congress), and voting to support Israel after the 2023 Hamas attack. In 2021, Guest was reported to have violated the STOCK Act by failing to properly disclose stock trades and paid a $200 fine.
Prior political experience
Guest was first elected in 2018, winning a six-way Republican primary with 45% of the vote, then defeating Democratic State Representative Michael Evans in the general election. He was reelected in 2020 with 64.7% of the vote against Democrat Dort Benford. He was reelected again in 2022. Guest campaigned in 2018 as a strong supporter of President Donald Trump.
