Biography

Overview

Mike Collins is a Republican U.S. Representative from Georgia's 10th congressional district, serving since 2023. Born in Jackson, Georgia in 1967, he is a businessman who founded a trucking company in the early 1990s and served in leadership roles at a Georgia credit union and local chamber of commerce. He is the son of Mac Collins, who represented Georgia in Congress from 1993 to 2005.

Career

Collins's first bill to become law was the TRANQ Act (H.R. 1734) in December 2023, making him the first member of his freshman class to see legislation signed into law. The Laken Riley Act, which he introduced requiring ICE detention of undocumented immigrants charged with theft, passed both chambers and was signed into law by President Trump in January 2025. He voted to impeach Joe Biden in December 2023 and voted against the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023.

Prior political experience

Collins first ran for Georgia's 10th district in 2014, finishing second in the primary to Jody Hice and losing the runoff. In 2022, after Hice declined to seek reelection, Collins ran again. He won a runoff against Vernon Jones on June 21, 2022, and defeated Democratic nominee Tabitha Johnson-Green in the general election on November 8, 2022. He has announced a U.S. Senate campaign for 2026, challenging Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff.
