Overview
Mike Haridopolos is a Republican U.S. representative from Florida's 8th congressional district, serving since 2025. He previously served in the Florida House (2000-2003) and Florida Senate (2003-2012), including as Senate President from 2010-2012. Before entering politics, he was a history and political science instructor at Brevard Community College and later at the University of Florida.
Career
Haridopolos built his legislative career in Florida, serving 12 years in the state legislature and rising to Senate President during a period of strong Republican control. At the state level, he focused on making the Florida Senate more conservative. In Congress, he is currently developing a legislative agenda centered on financial technology and space. He was elected to the U.S. House with 62% of the vote in 2024 in an open-seat race, immediately consolidating Republican support after announcing his candidacy.
Prior political experience
Haridopolos was elected to the U.S. House in 2024 with 62% of the vote in Florida's 8th congressional district, an open seat created when incumbent Bill Posey announced his retirement in April 2024. At the state level, he won his initial Florida House seat in 2000 by 30+ percentage points in the primary and 65-35% in the general election. He was re-elected to the Florida House in 2002 with over 82% in the primary and 79% in the general. He won a Florida Senate special election in 2003 with 84% in the primary and 63% in the general, and was re-elected without opposition in both 2006 and 2010.
