He currently serves as the 56th Speaker of the House, a position he has held since October 2023. Career
Johnson has championed bills to restrict abortion nationwide, including the Heartbeat Protection Act and Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. He led efforts to defend religious liberty in legal cases, including representing the Ark Encounter in a lawsuit against Kentucky. As Speaker, he negotiated major spending packages, secured bipartisan passage of foreign aid bills for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan in 2024, and managed a divided Republican majority through multiple governance challenges. He was instrumental in the 2020 Electoral College objections, leading efforts by Republican representatives to contest election results based on constitutional grounds.
