Biography

Overview

Mike Kelly is a Republican U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania's 16th congressional district, serving since 2011. He represents the Erie area and stretches into Butler County in western Pennsylvania. Before his political career, Kelly was a businessman who owned and operated car dealerships in the region.

Career

Kelly has sponsored three bills that became law during his congressional tenure—two renaming Department of Veterans Affairs facilities and one renaming a post office, all in Butler, Pennsylvania. He has been named a finalist for the Congressional Management Foundation's Constituent Service Award for three consecutive years (2018-2020). The Lugar Center and Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy ranked Kelly in the top one-third of most bipartisan members for three consecutive Congresses.

Prior political experience

Kelly was first elected in 2010, defeating incumbent Representative Kathy Dahlkemper with 55.7% of the vote. He won reelection in 2012 with 54.8%, in 2014 with 60.6%, and ran unopposed in 2016 with 100% of the vote. After redistricting in 2018, his new 16th district was considered less safe, and he won with 51.5% against Ron DiNicola. He won in 2020 with 59.3% against Kristy Gnibus, in 2022 with 59.4% against Dan Pastore, and in 2024 with 63.7% against Preston Nouri, receiving 256,923 votes.
