Overview

Mike Kennedy is a Republican U.S. representative from Utah's 3rd congressional district, serving since 2025. He is an attorney and physician who previously served in the Utah Senate (2021-2025) and Utah House (2013-2019). Born February 2, 1969, Kennedy earned degrees from Brigham Young University and Michigan State University, and a law degree from BYU's law school. He works as a family doctor in Alpine, Utah.

Career

In the Utah legislature, Kennedy served on committees addressing education funding, health and human services, and municipal issues. At the U.S. House level, he has sponsored legislation targeting immigration reform, energy development, technology regulation, and infrastructure. He ran for U.S. Senate in 2018, finishing second at the Republican convention before losing to Mitt Romney in the primary.

Prior political experience

Kennedy won the 2024 Republican nomination for Utah's 3rd congressional district with 39% of the vote in a five-candidate field, despite being outspent 5-to-1 and 2-to-1 by the top two competitors. He won the Republican convention nomination after six rounds of voting. He was sworn into Congress on January 3, 2025. Due to mid-cycle redistricting, Kennedy is running for Utah's 4th congressional district in 2026.
