Biography

Overview

Nicholas A. Langworthy is a Republican U.S. Representative from New York's 23rd congressional district, serving since 2023. Born in Jamestown, New York in 1981, he previously served as chair of the New York State Republican Committee (2019-2023), becoming the youngest state chair in party history. Before his House election, he chaired the Erie County Republican Committee since 2010 and worked as a staffer for various Republican members of Congress.

Career

Langworthy's legislative record emphasizes energy independence, deregulation, and border security. Notable sponsored bills include infrastructure acceleration measures (Infrastructure Project Acceleration Act), border security enhancement (Northern Border Security Enhancement and Review Act), and energy policy reforms (Energy Choice Act, State Energy Accountability Act). His voting record shows consistent support for energy deregulation and skepticism toward sanctuary city policies. In July 2025, he opposed releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files when the House Rules Committee voted on the matter.

Prior political experience

Langworthy was first elected to the U.S. House in 2022. He won the Republican primary on August 24, 2022, defeating Carl Paladino in what was described as the real contest in the heavily Republican 23rd district. He subsequently won the general election against Democratic nominee Max Della Pia. New York's 23rd district represents portions of Buffalo suburbs and most of the Southern Tier region.
