Biography

Overview

Nicole Malliotakis is a Republican U.S. Representative from New York's 11th congressional district, serving since 2021. Her district covers Staten Island and a portion of southern Brooklyn. She previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2011 to 2021, representing the 60th and then 64th districts. Malliotakis was the Republican nominee for New York City mayor in 2017, losing to incumbent Bill de Blasio. Born November 11, 1980, she is the only Republican currently representing New York City in Congress.

Career

In the State Assembly, Malliotakis made elder rights a priority and successfully fought to keep a senior center in Staten Island from closing. She challenged the Port Authority toll increases through legal action and was effective at securing toll relief. She led forums opposing the MTA Payroll Mobility Tax, which contributed to the New York state legislature and Governor enacting significant repeals. In Congress, she voted for the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in 2021, breaking with her party on this issue. She was selected to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee in January 2023, a significant achievement. In February 2026, she announced that SSG Michael H. Ollis of Staten Island would posthumously receive the Medal of Honor. Her voting record shows 71,348 total votes cast.

Prior political experience

Malliotakis was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2010, defeating two-term Democratic incumbent Janele Hyer-Spencer by 10 percentage points. She was reelected in 2012 with 61% of the vote and in 2014 with 73% of the vote. In the 2017 New York City mayoral race, she lost to incumbent Democrat Bill de Blasio, receiving 28% to his 66%. In 2020, she ran for Congress and defeated incumbent Democrat Max Rose with 53% of the vote to Rose's 47%. In the 2022 rematch against Max Rose, she won with 62% to his 38%. In 2024, she was reelected for a third term, defeating Democratic challenger Andrea Morse with 64% of the vote to Morse's 36%.
