Career
Tlaib has voted to impeach President Trump in both 2019 and 2021. She was the first Muslim woman to serve in the Michigan state legislature and served there before entering Congress. The House of Representatives censured her on November 7, 2023, in response to statements about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Prior political experience
Tlaib was first elected to Congress in 2018 in a special election for Michigan's 13th congressional district. She finished first in the Democratic primary for the general election with 31.2% of the vote and faced no major-party opposition in the November 2018 general election, becoming the first Palestinian American woman elected to Congress. In 2020, she won the Democratic primary against Brenda Jones with 66% of the vote. Following redistricting, in 2022 she won her primary with 64% of the vote and the general election with 71% against Republican Steven Elliott. In 2024, she was unopposed in the Democratic primary and won the general election with over 69% of the vote, defeating Republican James Hooper (25.4%), Green Party nominee Brenda K.
