Overview

Richard McCormick is a Republican physician and U.S. House representative from Georgia's 7th district, serving since 2023. A former Naval Aviator and Medical Corps commander with over 20 years of military service, he is an emergency physician at Gwinnett Medical Center. He represents Georgia's 7th congressional district after previously representing the 6th district.

Career

McCormick has sponsored legislation addressing military healthcare pay equity, export procedures, and government efficiency. He censured Representative Rashida Tlaib over statements regarding Israel in November 2023. He endorsed Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign and has advocated for reducing non-discretionary federal spending, specifically mentioning potential reforms to Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare.

Prior political experience

McCormick ran for Georgia's 7th congressional district in 2020, winning the Republican primary with over 50% of the vote but losing the general election to Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux. In 2022, he ran for the newly-redrawn Georgia's 6th congressional district, winning a Republican primary runoff against Jake Evans and then winning the general election against Democrat Bob Christian. In 2024, he was elected to represent Georgia's 7th congressional district.
