Biography

Overview

Riley Moore is a Republican serving as U.S. Representative for West Virginia's 2nd congressional district since January 2025. He was the West Virginia State Treasurer from 2021 to 2025 and previously served in the state House of Delegates. Moore holds degrees in government from George Mason University and strategic security studies from the National Defense University, and worked as a welder before his political career.

Career

As State Treasurer (2021-2025), Moore opposed ESG investing and in 2022 issued a letter barring six major financial institutions from conducting state business due to their positions on fossil fuels. In his brief time in Congress, he has introduced legislation addressing immigration, trade, labor transparency, and family tax benefits. Moore is a member of the Republican Study Committee.

Prior political experience

Moore was elected to Congress in November 2024 with 46 percent of the Republican primary vote against four other candidates. He won the general election to represent West Virginia's 2nd district, succeeding Alex Mooney. He was previously elected West Virginia State Treasurer in 2020 with 56 percent of the vote, running unopposed in the Republican primary against incumbent Democrat John Perdue. In 2016, he won election to the West Virginia House of Delegates for district 67, but lost reelection in 2018.
