Biography
Overview
Warren Davidson is a Republican U.S. Representative from Ohio's 8th congressional district, serving since 2016. He is a former U.S. Army officer who attended West Point and served in the 75th Ranger Regiment, before becoming a manufacturing business owner. Davidson is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and the Sound Money Caucus, which he founded in 2020.
Career
Davidson has championed efforts to reform U.S. signals intelligence authorities, co-sponsoring the Safeguarding Americans' Private Records Act (SAPRA) in 2020 and working with Representative Zoe Lofgren on amendments to restrict warrantless surveillance under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. He founded the Sound Money Caucus in 2020 to focus on financial stability and dollar strength. Davidson has been active on spending restraint, voting against numerous spending bills and disaster relief measures on fiscal grounds. He objected to the 2020 election certification on January 7, 2021, and has faced ethics complaints and backlash for various statements, including comparisons of vaccine requirements to the Holocaust and statements about abortion policy.
Prior political experience
Davidson first won his seat in a June 2016 special election to fill the remainder of Speaker John Boehner's term after winning a 15-way primary. He then won a full term in the 2016 general election with 68.7% of the vote against Democratic nominee Steven Fought. In 2018, he defeated Democratic nominee Vanessa Enoch with 66.6% of the vote. In 2020, he again defeated Enoch with 69% of the vote. The available election data shows multiple vote totals from the 2020 election (246,277 votes at 69.0% being the primary general election figure).
